The rupiahs Jisdor exchange rate weakened by Rp 33, or 0.20%, to Rp 16,834 per US dollar.

Over the week, the spot rupiah weakened 0.56% from Rp 16,725 per US dollar. Meanwhile, the rupiahs Jisdor exchange rate weakened 0.65% over the week.

The rupiah weakened for six consecutive days, weighed down by fiscal concerns after last years budget deficit nearly exceeded its target.

The rupiahs continued weakening today is the longest period of weakening in more than three months.

Although the rupiahs weakening was primarily driven by domestic sentiment, most Asian currencies also weakened against the US dollar today.

The Japanese yen weakened 0.48%. The Korean won weakened 0.39%. The Malaysian ringgit weakened 0.34%.

The Indian rupee weakened 0.22%. The Singapore dollar weakened 0.17%. The Philippine peso weakened 0.11% against the US dollar.

The Taiwanese dollar weakened 0.10%. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong dollar weakened slightly by 0.04% against the US dollar.

Only two currencies strengthened against the US dollar: the Thai baht and the Chinese yuan. The baht strengthened 0.17%. Meanwhile, the Chinese yuan strengthened 0.02% against the greenback.

The dollar index, which reflects the US dollar exchange rate against major global currencies, strengthened 0.11% to 99.04 today. The dollar index has strengthened for the fourth consecutive day.
