Cbank Expects Weaker Rupiah, Better Growth in 2018
Bank Indonesia, the central bank, expects the rupiah to weaken marginally against the dollar next year while the countrys economic growth rate should be slightly higher, its governor said on Tuesday (06/06).

Governor Agus Martowardojo said the rupiah will likely trade at an average rate of 13,400-13,700 to the dollar next year, versus his forecast for a 2017 average of 13,300-13,600.

On Tuesday afternoon, the rupiah was trading at 13,290. The currency has gained about 1.4 percent against the dollar so far this year. We expect the rupiah to remain stable going forward although there are a number of risks we are monitoring like the Feds plan to increase US rates and geopolitical development in some places, he told a parliamentary hearing.

Bank Indonesias current projection for 2018 GDP growth is 5.1-5.5 percent, slightly better than 2017s outlook of 5.0-5.4 percent, Agus said.
