Jakarta Terrorist Attack Wont Hurt Rupiah: Central Bank Governor
The suicide bombing in Jakartas Kampung Melayu on Wednesday night (24/05) is not expected to hurt the stability of the rupiah, Bank Indonesia governor said on Friday.

The rupiah weakened 0.09 percent to 13,294 against the dollar on Friday, according to Bloombergs spot exchange rate. The weaker dollar against other currencies helped to offset negative sentiments following the attack.

We see the currency is stable. Indonesias economic aspects have been able to separate [themselves] from the political ones, Bank Indonesia governor Agus Martowardojo said, as quoted by Antaranews.com.

The weak US dollar was quite helpful amid unfavorable domestic sentiments that range from the political and security issues to rising inflation in May said Rangga Cipta, a Samuel Sekuritas analyst.

According to Rangga, the overall trend for rupiah remains positive.

Reza Priyambada of Binaartha Sekuritas said that with a relatively flat domestic sentiment, investors look for a positive catalyst in foreign news.

According to Reza, rupiah will not fall too low as the US dollars appreciation has been halted by the Feds unclear intentions to increase its benchmark rate.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) will announce Mays inflation rate next week.

Bank Indonesias inflation forecast indicates it may accelerate to 4.31 percent in May from 4.17 percent in April, still within the central banks 3-5 percent target for this year.
